A cover-up that spanned four U.S. Presidents pushed the country's first female newspaper publisher and a hard-driving editor to join an unprecedented battle between the press and the government.

As one might expect an intriguing storyline compliment by top draw performances and direction.
A solid drama then and fans of the genre will surely like this.

<><><>

Another Neeson film and much like his other outings entertains well enough
The only down side is the visual effects which were average
If you like the "Taken" series and his other recent films then you should like this.

With just 48 hours to live, the only hope is to create an antidote from fresh venom — but to do that, someone will have to figure out how to milk a Graboid!

<><><>

Dear me this is a silly film in the Tremors franchise...
That is my view although this is the first in the series that I have watched.
The visual and special effects are good enough but the storyline was at times a bit suspect.
Fans should like this but to be honest I did not.

<><><>

Parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet, as she is drawn back to her ghostly childhood home, where the terror began.

An ok addition to the Insidious franchise but with few scares.

Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions they have been asking since they first arrived in the maze.

<><><>

Way to long, predictable sequel bordering on the absurd...
A pity but I guess Maze runner fans may like it, I did not.
To many plot holes and a storyline of cliche after cliche.
On the other hand the visual effects were good.

Darkest Hour
UK certificate PG
120 mins

Image

Genre : Biography/Drama/History/War

Directed by : Joe Wright

Starring : Gary Oldman/Lily James/Kristin Scott Thomas

<><><>

During World War II, as Adolf Hitler's awesomely powerful Wehrmacht rampages across Europe, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Neville Chamberlain, is forced to resign, recommending Winston Churchill as his replacement. But even in his early days as the country's leader, Churchill is under pressure to commence peace negotiations with the German dictator or to fight head-on the seemingly invincible Nazi regime, whatever the cost. However difficult and dangerous his decision may be, Churchill has no choice but to shine in the country's darkest hour.

<><><>

Superb performance by Oldman as Winston Churchill complimented by an excellent supporting cast, all of which transports you to that period in WW2.,.
The Script and storyline is a solid piece of work as is the cinematography.
However being a drama might not suit every one and ohhh there are some historical inaccuracies....
But as I keep on saying as long as the film entertains and this certainly did all is well.

Highly Recommended

Den Of Thieves

Image

Genre : Action/Crime/Drama/Mystery/Thriller

A gritty L.A crime saga which follows the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and the state's most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles.

<><><>

Not a bad effort with some good action and fight choreography..
Good performance by Butler lifts an OK storyline which unfortunately had a few plot holes.
Worth a watch

This movie received mixed reviews but I found it entertaining, and with a mostly black cast was certainly different.
The special & visual effects were top draw as were the performances...

A powerful adaption of the theater play brings to life the rigors of the trenches in WW1.
The performances were excellent portraying dark, often tragic circumstances that they found themselves in.
In addition a good in depth characterization compliments excellent storyline.
Please be aware that there is little in the way of action so one for solid drama fans...

The 15:17 To Paris
UK certificate 15
94 mins

Image

Genre : Biography/Drama

Directed by : Clint Eastwood

Starring : Alek Skarlatos/Anthony Sadler/Spencer Stone

<><><>

In the early evening of August 21, 2015, the world watched in stunned silence as the media reported a thwarted terrorist attack on Thalys train #9364 bound for Paris--an attempt prevented by three courageous young Americans traveling through Europe. The film follows the course of the friends' lives, from the struggles of childhood through finding their footing in life, to the series of unlikely events leading up to the attack. Throughout the harrowing ordeal, their friendship never wavers, making it their greatest weapon and allowing them to save the lives of the more than 500 passengers on board.

<><><>

The performances were ok but the storyline, in my view, dwelled to much on the early years.
Clint Eastwood's direction has seen better days so I think retirement beckons.
So all in all an average drama which had mixed reviews.

6/10

Sequence Break

UK certificate 15
80 mins

<><><>

A surreal sci-fi romance wherein a beautiful young woman and strange metaphysical forces threaten the reality of a reclusive video arcade technician, resulting in bizarre biomechanical mutations and a shocking self-realization.

<><><>

A rather bizarre film which lacked the horror element.
The performances were so so as was the storyline line but the special effects were fine.
One for sci-fi fans who like a twisted tale.

5/10

Storming Juno

<><><>

Storming Juno is a film based on the remarkable and determined actions of a handful of young Canadian men who stormed Juno Beach on June 6, 1944. D-Day.

<><><>

Action all the way with a mix of present day acting and archive film.
The special and visual effects were excellent but let down a tad by some sloppy editing.
I enjoyed this film as it certainly showed the hell that is war..

Sally Hawkins excels as the lonely mute janitor and is complimented by a good storyline.

<><><>

A by the numbers budget movie with a rather thin Storyline..

Gringo
UK certificate 15
110 mins

Image

Genre : Action/Comedy/Crime

Directed by : Nash Edgerton

Starring : Joel Edgerton/Charlize Theron/David Oyelowo

<><><>

Gringo joyrides into Mexico, where mild-mannered businessman Harold Soyinka finds himself at the mercy of his back-stabbing business colleagues back home, local drug lords and a morally conflicted black-ops mercenary. Crossing the line from law-abiding citizen to wanted criminal, Harold battles to survive his increasingly dangerous situation in ways that raise the question: Is he out of his depth - or two steps ahead?

<><><>

A gritty black comedy with good performances from the principles.
However the screenplay was average and uneven, editing and direction not upto standard,
but was compensated for by good characterization.
So if you like black comedy you may like this...

6.5/10

Tomb Raider
UK certificate 12
118 mins

Image

Genre : Action/Adventure/Fantasy

Directed by : Roar Uthaug

Starring : Alicia Vikander/Dominic West/Walton Goggins

<><><>

Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she discovers the island where her father disappeared.

<><><>

Games rarely make good films but Tomb Raider does ok even though a re-boot....Not as good as Assassins Creed but streets ahead of Farcry and in some ways better than the original outing.
That said the storyline deviates from the original game story so fans of the game may not like that.
The visual effects could have been better to and seem to have done to a tight budget.
Personally, are liked the film..

6.5/10

<><><>

A good action movie with Cage on top form.
The storyline has little resemblance to the real heist,
but entertained which in my view is the main thing.
The special and visual effects were fine to...

Worth a watch

Genesis: The Fall of Eden
UK certificate 15

In a post-apocalyptic society, living underground as protection from pollution, the main concern is getting enough food and finding other survivors. A pollution-resistant android with A.I. is developed to help obtain this.

<><><>

A rather dull and average movie but with some good acting from the principles.
As I have often said good Sci-Fi cannot be done on a low budget and so it is here.
The visual effects were poor then just acceptable
One I think for Sci-fi nuts.

Average performances of an equally poor script compliments so so visual effects.
One for insomnia sufferers

Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes when the Kaiju threat returns.

<><><>

Not as good as the original and to my mind geared more for kids than adults.
That said I did enjoy the ride where visual effects come into there own.
Performances were ok as was the storyline....
So if you liked the original you may find the sequel a tad silly.

Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city's violence as it's rushed into his ER -until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts for his family's assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media's attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel...or a grim reaper.

<><><>

A violent, bloody action remake of the 1974 Bronson's movie...
Good performances were complimented by top draw direction.
My only niggle was Willis seemingly laid back portrayal of the character Dr. Kersey.
But that is just nit picking because I enjoyed the ride.
