Ant-Man

Genre : Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi

Directed by : Peyton Reed

Starring : Paul Rudd/Michael Douglas/Evangeline Lilly

<><><>

Biochemist Dr. Hank Pym uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects.

<><><>

Entertaining ? Yes.....But I found the lead actor's performance a tad average as was the plot.
Another Marvel Studio production, not the best I have seen I must say.
The special effects were top draw however, and the action scenes well choreographed.
Worth a watch

<><><>

In the near future, Frank Grieves is a new breed of police officer working in a city where all recreational drugs are legal. When he is taken off a case involving an unidentified corpse, he discovers that legalization has come at a price.

<><><>

A tangled plot which leaves you wondering who is who...Characters lacked depth and the storyline was somewhat disjointed...
Pity because the idea was good.

Road to Paloma

Image

Genre : Drama/Thriller

Directed by : Jason Momoa

Starring : Jason Momoa/Robert Homer Mollohan/Lisa Bonet

<><><>

After a brutal injustice occurs on a Native American reservation, a son must find redemption for the actions of his past. Road to Paloma is the beautiful journey of two bikers traveling across America's vast west. While Native American Wolf (Jason Momoa) is being pursued by the FBI for having taken the law into his own hands, when his mother was raped and killed on their reservation he crosses paths with Cash (Robert Mollohan), a down and out musician who is coping with the end of his marriage. An unlikely friendship develops, as they ride together towards the Teton mountain range, where Wolf will spread his mothers ashes.

<><><>

I liked this film..a thoughtful in away haunting story well acted particularly by Momoa
The characters had depth even though much relied on the atmosphere of the scenes rather than dialogue.
The cinematography was just right, and complimented by an excellent musical score.
Recommended to those that like a good drama with a difference,

The duo's only lead is the daughter of a missing German scientist, whom they must find soon to prevent a global catastrophe.

<><><>

Witty storyline directed in the Ritchie style....A modern uptake of the UNCLE TV series and good it is.
Excellent performances by the leads and some neat action seens maintains the interest.
I must admit I was not expecting a great deal, but I was pleasantly surprised.

A well crafted psychological thriller which keeps you interested.....A neat storyline but for me, some how lacked punch.....
Anyway that was a nit pick I think.
Performances were good as was Edgertons's direction so worth a watch.

<><><>

A reboot of the 2005 version which was much better.....This film lacked character development and the script was just poor.
On top of that the running time was to short.
The saving grace was the visual effects which were top draw..
Overall a big disappointment.

2025 - The Shuttle Program has been privatized and the shuttle Atlantis relegated to glorified taxi between space stations. Its crew is on a routine mission, conducting experiments - little do they know - they are the experiment.

<><><>

Sci-Fi on a budget is seldom a good idea and this is sadly one of them.
Sound is Dolby mono which reminded me of the early black and white movies.
That said the acting was ok as was the storyline...but way to many plot holes.

One for addicts of sci-fi

I was some what disappointed with this film...The characters were under developed, the plot was well average, and the film very slow paced in the first half.

Focusing on the relationship between Reggie Kray and Frances Shea, told from France's' point of view as someone who knew him best, as well as the mental health issues Ronnie Kray faced and their rise to power as the notorious gangsters of London.

<><><>

This film did not have much of the menace and brutality associated with the Krays.
To my mind the Kemp brothers 1990 version was much better in this respect.
Legend dwells alot on relationships and Ronnie's health issues that fine if this is what you want to see.
For me it was sdomewhat unbalanced.
That said Tom Hardy as the Krays was excellent.......
How ever I still think the Kemp brothers version is better.

I have mixed feelings about this movie..for sure the visual effects were superb...

Starring : Daniel Craig/Christoph Waltz/Léa Seydoux

<><><>

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia, the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE. Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh, the new head of the Centre of National Security, questions Bond's actions and challenges the relevance of MI6 led by M. Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny and Q to help him seek out Madeleine Swann, the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White, who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of the assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot. As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks.

This Bond outing got mixed reviews probably because of the lact lustre script....and I guess less sparkle.
I thought the action sequences were as good has we have seen in past Bonds..as were the visual effects.
But overall less so.
That said I enjoyed it for its entertainment value.

<><><>

I had mixed feelings about this movie...I have often said Sci-Fi requires a strong budget...This did not have that and it showed.
The storyline is a mixture of plots in early movies..but not bad.
The CG was good as werer the creature effects I only wish the acting was as well.
One for Sci-Fi addicts...

Starring : Lorenza Izzo/Ariel Levy/Daryl Sabara

Student activists from New York City travel to the remote jungles of Peru in order to stage a protest but instead encounter a tribe of cannibals.

<><><>

oh oh, those that have seen other Eli Roth films like "Hostel" will know what to expect.
Gore and more Gore......sometimes brutal but less horror than I was expecting.
Not a really good cannibal film then ..lets say a tad average...but it should satisfy gore fans.

Soldiers of the Damned

Genre : Action/Horror/Thriller/War

It's the Eastern Front, 1944. The Russians are pushing the German Army back through Romania. Major Kurt Fleischer, war-weary commander of an elite troop of German soldiers, is ordered to escort a female scientist into a mysterious forest behind enemy lines to retrieve an ancient relic. As his men begin to disappear in strange circumstances Fleischer realises that the scientist is part of Himmler's occult department and there is something in the forest that is far more deadly than the Russians.

<><><>

Not a bad movie with some good visual effects...That said the acting was a tad variable.
On top of this most had English accents, some German.
That was irritating.
The storyline was ok but a bit disjointed.

The Last Witch Hunter
UK certificate 15
102 mins

Image

Genre : Action/Adventure/Fantasy

Directed by : Breck Eisner

Starring : Vin Diesel/Rose Leslie/Elijah Wood

<><><>

The modern world holds many secrets, but by far the most astounding is that witches still live among us; vicious supernatural creatures intent on unleashing the Black Death upon the world and putting an end to the human race once and for all. Armies of witch hunters have battled this unnatural enemy for centuries, including Kaulder, a valiant warrior who many years ago slayed the all-powerful Witch Queen, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments right before her death, the Queen cursed Kaulder with immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter. Today, Kaulder is the last living hunter who has spent his immortal life tracking down rogue witches, all the while yearning for his long-lost family.

<><><>

Not a bad film...but the plot was severely lacking in the second half.
Diesel gave a good performance of an otherwise average story line.
The visual effects were good and I guess in the end the film was entertaining.

Not as good as the Directors earlier work "Inside", but as with most French horror movies brutal and gory.
