I think that is wrong. Robert Bowling, from Infinity Ward, has said theres no delay for PC release day of MW2.

Correct

• We're doing a lot on the backend to make the game accessible for everyone.
• There is no delay for the PC version of MW2
• There's prestige mode
• Jason West at the MP event, said that he was dead on, on the matchmaking servers. We've been building a system on the backend called IW.NET.
• You are completely reliant on IW.NET. There are no server lists. There are no dedicated servers.
• You have private matches where you can customize the game
• You cannot put MW2 on a dedicated server.
• This is the first time we've ever done something like this and the team has huge plans for what IW.NET develops into.
• Customizing your game...you have quite a few options in a private match
• You're getting same game (as in Console), plus matchmaking and private match.
• Server admin point-of view, NO DEDICATED SERVERS

Infinity Ward leaves no chance to have own MW2 server.
Instead they brought a matchmaking system from console's that automatically decides what server to play on for every player individually.
All multiplayer servers will be ran and controlled by Infinity Ward and wont be listed anywhere (ie no server list).

There will be no mods, custom maps, server admins and so on!
No need to mention that you wont be able to play online with a pirated game

Disappointed CoD series fans already made a petition with 30K+ signatures up to this moment

Another notable change is that punkbuster will be replaced by VAC (Valve Anti Cheat) the anticheat that is used in Valve made games (Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, etc).
Most likely you will need Steam to play MW2 but thats not confirmed

Anyway we'll see about this but in my opinion Blizzard/Activision are ruining the CoD PC community and making MW2 a waste of words...

Unfortunately there's no much info about the way how their matchmaking system is supposed to work.

Some sources claim that you will able to play with your friends through a private match lobby (sort of friends only) that will use peer-to-peer system (ie clients communicate with each other passing the server phase).

Infinity Ward states that they want to make the game to be "accessible for everyone"
The matchmaking system will be seeking a game for you populated by players of the same rank as yours
I guess it will be hard for two or more mates to join the same game that way

However i hope that they have implemented some kind of invitation system to make you and your friends to play in the public game together although that may ruin their plans for the skill balanced game. We'll see...
