FILMS on DVD Reviewed Part 1 (Closed)

Hi Guys
For my sins I am a film buff as well as a addicted gamer  .
Thought I might start a thread reviewing briefly some of the latest films I bought and have seen.

Final Destination 3, UK certificate 15.
Follows the pattern set by the previous two, plenty of shocks but I felt that the director James Wong could have done more.
Not as good as Two.
Shock score

Hostel, UK certificate 18
First film I have seen by the Director Eli Roth.
The hype for this film was incredible and almost meets reality.
It is a brutal portrait of torture and greed, where Roth tries hard to emulate the japanese horror industry in all its bloody gore.
Almost makes it.
Shock score

Wolf Creek, UK certificate 18
This film is based on true events in the outback of Australia.
It tells the story of a serial killer who is bloody brutal sometimes beyond believe.
For me this was a well crafted horror, Brutal and Shocking.
Shock score

Yes I am a Horror and Sci-Fi addict, must get a life

I hope this is ok, plenty more films in the library.

and etc.. There are quite scary except for the underworld.

But I usually watch Action and advanture, sometimes documnetry.

i just remember one great movie due to this topic.

name is PI like in that chemical but in symbol. anyway, if you have bored
with modern & boring films (like me) what have no personality, then this
is THE movie to see. black & white, grainy quality, first project of Darren
Aronofsky
(director of Requiem for a Dream)

tells about the guy whos little bit paranoid with just about everything.
he has obsesion of number 255 and he founds it from everywhere. he
has medical addiction to some experimental drugs and some hebrew guy
is harrashing him about this number series what is answer to all probs.
generally, this movie has no meaning, no message, and i dont think it
has real story either. i cant explain what this movie is all about. main
atmosphere in this movie is....something between psycotic and paranoid.
if you want to see movie what is completely different than any other
movie excisting today, see this.

Action & Pi

Yes I too like the occasional thriller, latest being "Lucky Number Slevin" and "The Proposition". Both these titles are rated 18, but I think Lucky Number is the best, very slick direction by Paul McGuigan.
I have seen Creep, excellant well rounded horror.
What about Ring, Saw and to some extent the Hellraiser series!

I have Pi, a black & white film, what you could call a cult movie, not in the sense that Pitch Black is, but more a thinking man's Sci-Fi. Dark City is another example. I have no other titles by Aronofsky which is a pity.

An unusual film Is Immortal directed by Enki Bilal. A composite of computer generated and real life characters. Set in the year 2095 a giant extraterrestrial pyramid appears over New York.... (no not Stargate).
The film is one of the first to be shot on green screen. Outstanding!

I would welcome recommends on war and action.

Good viewing Guys :D

Watched "Hostel" 2 days ago, pretty good horror and worth watching.
I suggest the "unrated" version, it's even better,
half of the movie is full of naked tits and a$$es :ahah:
and lot of creepy scenes about cutting fingers off and how head is being smached 8)

PS. Not for Kiddo's

hey good movies, I saw almost all.

The Hills have eyes (remake), I enjoyed a lot watching it, brutal. This is older but i saw it recentrly and i like it, Donie Darko,is the kind of movie that make you think at the end, very interesting.
Another one, 28 days later, if you like G.Romero films (Dawn of the dead, etc..) this film is gonna like you. This is all for the moment...

It was a good film but like you say, not as good as the others.
Nothing can beat the bus scene in the first one!

I made the mistake of watching Final Destination 3 a week before going to alton towers! For those of you who are not UK, alton towers is a big theme park over here with big roller coasters :afraid:

However, did anyone notice, that in the premonition, part of the reason the coaster came off the tracks was because it hit the video camera that the guy dropped and it landed on the tracks?
That guy with the camera actually got off the coaster before it went, so no camera was there!

Anyway, a great film.

I have to say, one of my favourite films has to be:

The Usual Suspects (1995)
Directed by
Bryan Singer

After a waterfront explosion, Verbal (Kevin Spacey), an eye-witness and participant tells the story of events leading up to the conflagration. The story begins when five men are rounded up for a line-up, and grilled about a truck hijacking (the usual suspects). Least pleased is Keaton (Gabriel Byrne) a crooked cop - exposed, indicted, but now desperately trying to go straight. The cops won't leave him alone, however, and as they wait for their lawyers to post bail, he is talked into doing one more job with the other four. All goes tolerably well until the influence of the legendary, seemingly omnipotent "Keyser Soze" is felt. Although set in the modern day, it has much of the texture of the forties, plus suspense, intrigue (a fairly high body count), and lots of twists in the plot.

A great film, but guys, u really need to be sober to watch this one! :PSN5:

Non Sci-Fi & Horror

Thanks for the recommends guys,

How about something a liitle different
I viewed the following recently, not my usual fair and all are period dramas.

Elizabeth the First cert 15, starring Helen Mirren.

Set 20 years after Elizabeth came to the throne of England it depicts
all the intrigues, assisination plots and the fight against the Spainish Armada. The beginning of the secret service in England under Walsingham, the film holds no punches when depicting the way executions were done, either beheading are Hang Drawn and quartering.
A grand depiction of the times :)

Rome cert 15 & 18, starring Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson, and
Polly Walker

A vast dramatisation of the Roman period of the rise of Ceasar through to his eventual assisination at the hands of the Senate. A very powerful and intriging drama, with very graphic sex  and strong bloody violence which was indicative of the times. The Box Set of six discs includes more footage than was shown on TV......Outstanding :)

For those who like revenge movies with considerable bite,

try Man on Fire starring Denzel Washington.
