Manhunt aka Rovdyr UK Certificate 18

Its the summer of 1974. Four friends have planned a recreational weekend hiking and camping in the forest. At a remote truck stop they pick up an anxious hitchhiker who only after a short ride demands they stop the vehicle. When they wake up deep in the woods, all they can hear is the sound of a hunting horn. The game is on and they realise with nightmare shock that they are the prey.

Another middle of the road Horror with acting to match. The Storyline is good however as is Syversen's direction.

Red UK Certificate 15

Genre : Crime/Drama

Directed by : Lucky McKee/Trygve Diesen

On a sleepy afternoon while fishing with his 14 year-old dog, Red, Avery Ludlow is approached by a trio of teenage boys. The conversation begins benignly enough, but when the rifle-toting boys ask for money and Avery is unable to comply, they shoot and kill Red. Grieving for the loss of his friend, a gift for his 50th birthday from his late wife, Avery tracks down the shooter's name via the store where the rifle was purchased and pays a visit to the boy's father, wealthy redneck businessman Michael McCormack (Tom Sizemore). The boy, Danny (Noel Fisher), denies shooting the dog, which sets Avery on a path of vengeance, utilizing everything from the aid of a local TV news woman (Kim Dickens) to methods more conventionally brutal.

Australia UK Certificate 12

Genre : Adventure/Drama/Romance/War

Directed by : Baz Luhrmann

Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman) is a prim and proper Englishwoman who journeys to Australia in the years before World War II reached the country's shores. She is determined to have her estranged husband sell his cattle ranch to a monopoly-craving businessman named King Carney (Bryan Brown), but when she arrives, Lord Ashley is dead, and her plan to sell the ranch changes when she sees an employee named Fletcher (David Wenham) cheating her husband's business and mistreating a young boy named Nullah (Brandon Walters) because he is of mixed race. Urged on by both pride and a sense of justice, Lady Ashley wants to drive her herd of cattle to Darwin so she can sell them to the troops, but she'll require the help of an independent cowboy (fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman) to get them there.

Well what can one say......Superb Adventure & romance with powerful performances from Nicole Kidman & Hugh Jackman. The Storyline is engrossing & is complimented by the grand vista which is Australia & a stunning Musical Score.

I recommend this Film to all.....Simply Superb.

Transformers 2

Director: Michael Bay

Genre: Action / Adventure / Sci-Fi

In ???Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,??? two years have passed since Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and the Autobots saved the human race from the invading Decepticons. Now he's preparing for the biggest challenge of his life: leaving home for college.
Despite his extreme heroics, the battle of Mission City has become an urban legend believed only by conspiracy theorists. Sam is still an average teenager with everyday anxieties and excitement about heading off into adulthood, separating from his parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White) for the first time, and vowing to be faithful to girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox). Of course, he also has to explain his departure to his guardian robot, Bumblebee.

Leaving home is something the Autobots understand only too well. With the destruction of the Allspark, the Transformers home planet of Cybertron is uninhabitable, and the Autobots make the best of their lives on earth, working in league with the military as part of a TOP SECRET team called NEST. Operating alongside their human counterparts, field commanders Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and USAF Master Sergeant Epps (Tyrese Gibson), the NEST TEAM seeks to hunt down whatever remaining Decepticons are still hiding on earth. Unfortunately, even as the Autobots try to make a new life among humans, they discover they may not be welcome.
National Security Advisor Theodore Galloway (John Benjamin Hickey), driven to prove that all Transformers should be banished from earth, endeavors to terminate NEST, believing the Autobots??™ very presence may endanger the human race. Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, agrees to leave our planet if the governments of the world wish it... but he warns Galloway to consider what happens if the Autobots leave earth defenseless.

Meanwhile at school, Sam adjusts to his pushy, legend-in-his-own mind roommate, Leo (Ramon Rodriguez), and an equally aggressive temptation in the form of a new co-ed, Alice (Isabel Lucas). Sam does his best to navigate college life, until suddenly he??™s besieged by visions flashing across his brain like thunderbolts. The Decepticons soon learn what Sam doesn??™t know; that he alone holds the key to the outcome of the struggle between evil and the ultimate power of good.
A normal life will have to wait. With the help of the Autobots, the soldiers of NEST, and an old adversary-turned-ally (John Turturro, returning as former Sector 7 Agent Simmons), Sam and Mikaela must uncover the secret history of the Transformers presence on earth, and the sacrifices that have to be made to save it from an ancient threat sworn on returning here for revenge... an ancient Decepticon named THE FALLEN.

Theme song and part of the soundtrack of the film.....

Another Review

Valkyrie UK Certificate 12

Genre: Drama/History/War

Directed by : Bryan Singer

In Nazi Germany during World War II, as the tide turned in favor of The Allies, a cadre of senior German officers and politicians desperately plot to topple the Nazi regime before the nation is crushed in a near-inevitable defeat. To this end, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, an Army officer convinced he must save Germany from Hitler, is recruited to mastermind a real plan. To do so, he arranges for the internal emergency measure, Operation: Valkyrie, to be changed to enable his fellows to seize control of Berlin after the assassination of the Fuhrer. However, even as the plan is put into action, a combination of bad luck and human failings conspire on their own to create a tragedy that would prolong the greater one gripping Europe.

This Film was critised by some....However I found it to have a Gripping Storyline which told of the events at that time with power and per Nash....Strong Performances compliment.
A minor critisim is the very American & English accents....Cannot help wondering whether the choice of actors should have been drawn from Germany...as in the Film "Downfall" Directed by Bernd Eichinger .

Still all in all, I recommend this film to all....

Now that she is back in the small town of her teenage years, Jane is thrown back into the nightmare, when a copycat criminal starts kidnapping local young girls, her niece included. Is Bishop really dead or is someone emulating him, and why?

Warning :
This film is quite sadistic
...following the trend set by SAW & Hostel....

That said the storyline is suspenseful with many shock moments.
The performances are strong and very much convey the sense of dread & terror.

Recommend only to Horror Fans

The Cell 2 UK Certificate 18

Genre : Horror Sci-Fi

Directed By :Tim Iacofano

The Cusp is a serial killer who kills his victims and then brings them back to life; over and over again; until they beg to die! Maya is a psychic investigator who gained her powers after a 1 year coma after she was the Cusp's first victim! Now the Cusp Killer is back and Maya has little time to do what she has never done before, go into the mind of a killer unprotected, and save his latest victim.

A neat Sci-Fi Horror with a good Storyline and some fine performances to compliment the special effects.

7/10

Cold Prey UK Certificate 15

Genre : Horror

Directed by : Roar Uthaug

Following a gruesome accident, five friends' idyllic snowboarding expedition to the Jotunheimen mountains takes a turn for the eerie when they are forced to take shelter from a ravaging storm in an abandoned ski lodge. Empty and silent, the cavernous lodge seems deserted -- but there are secrets here. These secrets are long buried, thought forgotten and very, very dangerous.

This is a little gem of a Horror Film....Stylish old fashion direction & strong performances from the cast gives many a shock.

It is a Norwegian language film with English Subtitles...Dont be put off by this.
Recommended to all Horror Fans.

8/10

Red Mist UK Certificate 18

Genre : Horror

Directed By : Paddy Breathnach

A young doctor in a US hospital administers a powerful and untested cocktail of drugs to a coma victim. But instead of curing him, it triggers a powerful "out-of-body" experience and enables the patient - a depraved and dangerous loner - to inhabit other people's bodies and, through them, take revenge on the bullying medical students who were accidentally responsible for his condition. The doctor, who was herself a part of this group, is also targeted and as her colleagues are singled out and relentlessly picked off, she realises that she can trust no-one - friend or stranger - as this comatose killer moves in and out of bodies at will, getting ever closer as his murderous supernatural powers increase.

This is the second film from this Director, the First Shrooms was a disappointment...So is this..
Not particularly engaging & a rather tiresome storyline....That said this will still appeal to diehard Horror fans...

Warning :...This film has some strong Strobe effects.

ANOTHER REVIEW..

The Young Victoria UK Certificate PG

Genre: Drama/History/Romance

Directed by : Jean-Marc Vallee

Born into nobility, her ascent to the throne was assured. Politically however, Victoria's inexperience meant that she relied heavily upon advisers to guide her. None more so than her cousin Prince Albert (Rupert Friend), who, at the tender age of 21 she married and went on to have nine children with.

A superb Film in everyway...visually stunning with exceptional performances, particularly from Emily Blunt & Rupert Friend. The music score compliments..... beautifully.

It is not often I am touched emotionally by a film...this one did.

Recommended to all.

TWO MORE REVIEWS

Knowing UK Certificate 15

Genre: Drama/Sci-Fi

Directed by : Alex Proyas

In the fall of 1959, for a time capsule, students draw pictures of life as they imagine it will be in 50 years. Lucinda, an odd child who hears voices, swiftly writes a long string of numbers. In 2009, the capsule is opened; student Caleb Koestler gets Lucinda's "drawing" and his father John, an astrophysicist and grieving widower, takes a look. He discovers dates of disasters over the past 50 years with the number who died. Three dates remain, all coming soon. He investigates, learns of Lucinda, and looks for her family. He fears for his son, who's started to hear voices and who is visited by a silent stranger who shows him a vision of fire and destruction. What's going on?

An intriging Storyline which holds your attention, Nicholas Cage's usual larconic self compliments.
A neat Sci-fi Film by the Director of "I, Robot"

Recommended to all, particularly Sci-Fi fans.

9/10

Watchmen UK Certificate 18

Genre : Action/Fantasy

Directed by : Zack Snyder

In a gritty and alternate 1985 the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown, but after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered an investigation into the killer is initiated. The reunited heroes set out to prevent their own destruction, but in doing so discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot.

This is a comic book style fantasy with plenty of action & awsome special effects.
I thought the Film somewhat long, but nevertheless a well told Storyline & excellent direction.

If you liked Dark Knight & Sin City..you will like this.

THREE MORE REVIEWS

Anamorph UK Certificate 18

Genre : Crime/Thriller

Directed by : H S Miller

Stan is a quiet, solitary detective in New York City. A few months ago, he solved a gruesome case of serial murders, although an undercover police officer lost her life. A new set of similar murders begins: the bodies are elaborately displayed and the killer uses equipment from art and early movie making in the tableau, or he leaves a clue as to where the investigators are to stand to get the full artistic effect. Stan is paired with a younger detective, Carl, whom he brushes off when Carl wants to get to know him. As pieces fall in place, it's a race to prevent the next killing, quite possibly someone close to Stan.

Rather a neat Crime Thriller, with some chilling moments...Good performances & gripping Storyline.

Recommended.

Cold Prey 2 UK Certificate 15

Genre : Horror

Directed by : Mats Steinberg

Following the tragedy in the Norwegian Mountains, only one women survived. Frozen & weak she struggles to get back to civilisation. Covered in blood she arrives at the local hospital but when she wakes in her bed she finds the Hospital Dark & silent without a living soul in sight. When she steps out of bed it becomes clear the nightmare is far from over.

This is the second outing in this Norwegian horror series. Not to my mind as sharp as the first ( see my review earlier). However some good acting helps to add to the atmosphere of dread & horror.

As before the film is in Norwegian language with English subtitles.

7/10

My Bloody Valentine UK Certificate 18

Genre : Horror

Directed by : Patrick Lussier

The town of Harmony would like to forget its horrofic past. Ten years ago, after a tragic mining accident, Harry Warden awoke from his coma on Valentine's day - and brutally murdered 22 people with a pickaxe before killing himself. Now, after years of peace, there is a killer on the loose, again wearing a miner's mask & brandishing a pickaxe......

Well ...This is a brutal horror film with plenty of shocks & special effects. The performances are good as is the storyline....
The DVD comes with either 2D or 3D versions...for those who want to watch in 3D, glasses are provided.

Recommended to die hard horror fans.
