In many ways this is an inspiring story of adversity and one man's will to come through.
Brutal particularly in the Japanese prisoner of war camp....a study in perseverance to over come.
Well acted with in my view a strong storyline.....excellent cinematography compliments...

A neat Sci-Fi thriller, Azimoz's robot dystopia....

The Theory Of Everything
UK certificate 12
118 mins

Image

Genre : Biography/Drama/Romance

Directed by : James Marsh

Starring : Eddie Redmayne/Felicity Jones/Charlie Cox

<><><>

The story of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking, and Jane Wilde the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s.
Little was expected from Stephen Hawking, a bright but shiftless student of cosmology, given just two years to live following the diagnosis of a fatal illness at 21 years of age. He became galvanized, however, by the love of fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children. Over the course of their marriage as Stephen's body collapsed and his academic renown soared, fault lines were exposed that tested the lineaments of their relationship and dramatically altered the course of both of their lives.

<><><>

A stunning biopic of Stephen Hawking & Jane Wilde played by Redmayne & Jones.
The film will bring out all the emotions, often sad, poignant but with much hope...
Redmayne portrays all emotions Hawking must have felt when learning for the first time about Motor Neuron Disease.
Powerful indeed....as was Felicity Jones superb performance as his enduring wife..

The performances overall were top draw...complimented by a neat storyline adapted from the novel
Just brilliant..... Highly recommended

Tough uncompromising tense thriller with a great storyline and excellent performances.

<><><>

Two young friends from New York travel to Barcelona to get over the break up of one of them. But things won't go as expected and they will end up trapped in a house where they will have to fight an evil girl and the evil inside them.

<><><>

Oh dear believe it or not this film was shot entirely with an iPhone..and it shows.
I hate jerky found footage style photography..period.
What with the infantile performances and a storyline we have seen many times before it is just not worth watching.

The special effects were the only saving grace...

Wild

UK certificate 15
110 mins

Image

Genre : Biography/Drama

Directed by : Jean-Marc Vallee

Starring : Reese Witherspoon/Laura Dern

<><><>

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthen, and ultimately heals her.

<><><>

I did not think this was as good as "Tracks", reviewed earlier, but in the main did not disappoint.
Witherspoon's performance was good and in keeping with the theme, but I felt the character lacked substance which is a pity.
Visually stunning cinematography lifts the mood.

Not to every bodies taste then, but in my view worth a watch.

A young man in a personal tailspin flees the US to Italy, where he sparks up a romance with a woman harboring a dark, primordial secret.

<><><>

I like this film, visually pleasing with strong performances from the leads...
I found myself empathizing with the characters...Romance is the main theme here, but with the occasional dark moments
of horror. That makes a change from the usual diet coming from Hollywood these days.
The only let down was the ending....
Anyway if you prefer romance with few horror moments then this is for you.

Despite grave danger and his struggle to be a good husband and father to his family back in the States, Kyle serves four tours of duty in Iraq. However, when he finally returns home, he finds that he cannot leave the war behind.

<><><>

Powerful and poignant storyline, top notch performances in this Biographical account of Chris Kyle....
Some critics panned this movie, but I think they lost the point entirely.
Movies are to entertain and by definition dramatize events....I was entertained and in the process had some insight into Kyle's values and life.
War is nasty and you certainly see that in this film.

<><><>

Intriguing drama of a relationship between Human & Robot...
Twists and turns indeed and a neat ending.
Be aware that this film is a drama, so strong on words and characterization...
The performances were powerful as was the storyline and complimented by excellent visual effects..

This movie wont be to every bodies taste, but I recommend a watch.

<><><>

In a dried out river bed at the foot of the ridge, one of the patrol detonates a land mine, blowing off his leg and setting into motion a desperate rescue mission.

<><><>

Utterly realistic depiction of what can happen in an insurgent type war...Gritty & very bloody.
The Storyline is strong and reflects soldiers feelings and thoughts on different situations they had to face honestly.

This is not a "Fury" type movie, but one which will shock particularly at the injuries and how they coped.

He never was found and so the whereabouts of this man are unknown, even today. Almost a century later, five bank robbers search for a hideaway in a remote hotel, as they flee from the police. France, 1940. In the first days of occupation, beautiful Lucile Angellier is trapped in a stifled existence with her controlling mother-in-law as they both await news of her husband: a prisoner of war. Parisian refugees start to pour into their small town, soon followed by a regiment of German soldiers who take up residence in the villagers' own homes. Lucile initially tries to ignore Bruno von Falk, the handsome and refined German officer staying with them. But soon, a powerful love draws them together and leads them into the tragedy of war.

I must admit not my normal viewing...But I am glad I did.
A strong storyline is complimented by top draw performances, in this film about romance in times of war.
Captivating and poignant.

Not for all then, but I do recommend to those that like solid drama.

In the city of dreams, a desperate actress will do whatever it takes for the role of a lifetime… no matter what the cost.

A solid enough horror with some thrills and scary moments.
Well acted bleak, dark, psychological storyline is complimented by some brutal gory scenes that hit you in the face.

Worth a watch, particularly for those that like horror.

When a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal skills and a gambling problem gets in trouble with the mob, he has one last play...and it's all or nothing.

<><><>

A rather average storyline lifted only by the fight scenes.
Sad to say Statham can do better than take scripts like this.
That said his fans may like the film....

<><><>

A disappointing sequel to Divergent mainly due to the script...
The acting was fine and as one might expect the visual effects awesome..but that was about it.
I guess it is worth a watch.

Genre : Drama/Thriller

Directed by : Andrew Niccol

Starring : Ethan Hawke/Bruce Greenwood/Zoe Kravitz

<><><>

In the shadowy world of drone warfare, combat unfolds like a video game–only with real lives at stake. After six tours of duty, Air Force pilot Tom Egan (Ethan Hawke) now fights the Taliban from an air-conditioned bunker in the Nevada desert. But as he yearns to get back in the cockpit of a real plane and becomes increasingly troubled by the collateral damage he causes each time he pushes a button, Egan’s nerves—and his relationship with his wife (January Jones)—begin to unravel.

<><><>

Thought provoking ..yes
Entertaining ? Well I found it so, but remember this is more a drama than action.
The film certainly gives you a good insight into drone warfare and the problems associated with collateral damage.

Worth a watch, but not for everyone.

Three women who have been driven mad by pioneer life are to be transported across the country by covered wagon by the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy, who in turn employs low-life drifter George Briggs to assist her.

<><><>

The west as it surely was...a hard life were people died....
Top draw performances particularly from Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank which complimented a well scripted story.
You get a real sense of the period and place...desolate Nebraskan plains.
It is a slow burner so wont suit everyone....

Well what can I say...A Stunning, poignant often emotional tour de force brilliantly directed and acted by Crowe.
