Many Thx Alexis my Friend:) Good Films

TWO MORE DVD FILM REVIEWS

The Last House on the Left UK Certificate 18 (Extended Version)

Genre: Crime/Drama/Thriller

Directed By : Dennis Iliadus

Four criminals on the lam encounter a pair of nubile female teens in a small mountain town. After murdering one and brutally raping the other and leaving her for dead, the cons seek refuge at a nearby summer house. The twist is that it's the very home inhabited by the parents of one of the victims. Upon learning that their house guests raped and tortured their 17-year-old daughter, the couple exact a revenge that arguably exceeds the excesses of the sociopathic gang !

This is a remake of the 1972 version directed by Wes Craven, He is the Producer here.
This is a Brutal look into the minds of depraved individuals, there Words & Actions.
The performances are strong as is the Storyline.....You can sense the sheer menace & terror as the story unfolds.....This contrasted by the Beautiful vistas of Lakeland America.

I can recommend this film only for those that like Hard hitting Crime Dramas...

10/10

Streets of Blood UK Certificate 18

Genre : Crime/Drama

Directed by : Charles Winkler

In New Orleans after 'Katrina', the partner of Detective Andy Devereaux is found dead and is teamed up with Stan Green. During the investigations, an undercover DEA agent is murdered by two dirty police officers. A psychologist, Nina Ferraro, has successive interviews with Andy, Stan and the two detectives. Meanwhile, the FBI also investigate the corruption in the police force leaded by Agent Brown.

Strong Performances lifts an average Storyline...as does powerful special effects.
Not as compelling as Last House, nor as menacing....

7/10

Steven Seagal plays an LA cop who after nearly being killed by his greedy partner, flees to New Mexico to work as a bodyguard for the daughter of a wealthy businessman. When mobsters kidnap her, he hunts them down to rescue her and protect her.
<><>

A good action movie if you can forgive Seagal's stinted dialog....Strong storyline..well staged fights.

Recommended to Action Fans

The Red Baron UK Certificate 12

Genre : Action/Romance/War

Directed By : Nikolai Muellerschoen

Baron Manfred von Richthofen (Schweigh?¶fer) is the most feared and celebrated pilot of the German air force in World War I. To him and his companions, air combats are events of sporty nature, technical challenge and honorable acting, ignoring the terrible extent of war. But after falling in love with the nurse K?¤te (Headey), Manfred realizes he is only used for propaganda means. Caught between his disgust for the war, and the responsibility for his fighter wing, von Richthofen sets out to fly again.
<><>

A well Acted & engaging Storyline of the famous aviator....although not particularly accurate, was nontheless entertaining which what counts I think.
The only down side for me was the CGI effects of the Air Battles....which gave the impression of computer generation, rather than simulating real live aircraft. Not as good as "Fly Boys" then but offset by a Strong Storyline & excellent musical score.....

ANOTHER DVD REVIEW

Star Trek XI UK Certificate 12

Genre: Sci-Fi

Directed By : JJ Abrams

On the day of James Kirk's birth, his father dies on his ship in a last stand against a mysterious alien vessel. He was looking for Ambassador Spock, who is a child on Vulcan at that time, disdained by his neighbors for his half-human nature. Twenty years later, Kirk has grown into a young troublemaker inspired by Capt. Christopher Pike to fulfill his potential in Starfleet even as he annoys his instructors like young Lt. Spock. Suddenly, there is an emergency at Vulcan and the newly commissioned USS Enterprise is crewed with promising cadets like Nyota Uhura, Hikaru Sulu, Pavel Chekov and even Kirk himself thanks to Leonard McCoy's medical trickery. Together, this crew will have an adventure in the final frontier where the old legend is altered forever even as the new version of it is just beginning.....

<><>

As is usual with Star Trek Films .. awsome special effects, a well written storline & excellent performances make for an enjoyable outing of the Franchise.

Only one gripe, is the somewhat "Boys own" performance by Chris Pine...grates sometimes.

That said this is a must see movie particularly for Sc-Fi Fans.

ANOTHER DVD REVIEW

Terminator Salvation UK Certificate 12

Genre : Action/Sci-Fi

Directed By : McG

Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.....

<><><>

Yet another outing in the Terminator Franchise, and I have to say so-so. Yes the Special Effects are Awsome as is the set piece battles scenes, but again an average storyline and a sense that you could not care whether Connor won or lost.

Even a CGI Arnie gets a look in.
One for Sci-Fi Fans...

ANOTHER DVD FILM REVIEW

Inglourious Basterds UK Certificate 18

Genre: Drama/War

Director : Quentin Tarantino

There's a Dirty Not-Quite-Dozen of mostly Jewish commandos, led by a Tennessee good ol' boy named Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) who reckons each warrior owes him one hundred Nazi scalps--and he means that literally. Even as Raine's band strikes terror into the Nazi occupiers of France, a diabolically smart and self-assured German officer named Landa (Christoph Waltz) is busy validating his own legend as "The Jew Hunter." Along the way, he wipes out the rural family of a grave young girl (Melanie Laurent) who will reappear years later in Paris, dreaming of vengeance on an epic scale..........

<><><>

Tarantino has the ability in his films to crank up the tension as well as large dollups, for some at least, hard to take moments. IB is no exception.
If you like the sometimes pop art cinema and the I dont't care if I offend attitude, Tarantino tends to drop into with his films, then check this out.

There are some outstanding performances particularly by Christoph Waltz as the SS Officer Landa....

BE WARNED ...This is an uncompromising look of the times in Occupied France....Atitudes & beliefs in the raw.

So a film not for everyone....
