<><><>

An excellent Drama with good performances ..Nice direction and musical score enhance the magic between Earhart/Putnam & Vidal.
I enjoyed the flying sequences..yes biased as one of my passions is vintage aviation.
My only critique is that the characters could have been more engaging.

That said I recommend this Film to All.

Unrest UK Certificate 15

Genre : Horror

Directed by : Jason Todd Ipson

Starring : Corri English/Scott Davis/Joshua Alba

Medical student Alison Blanchard (Corri English) and her fellow students (Scot Davis, Joshua Alba, Jay Jablonski) have to take Gross Anatomy, the traditional med school class where students learn the structure of the human body by cutting up cadavers. Unfortunately for Alison and her friends their cadaver isn’t as dead as it should be and it doesn’t like being messed with. Her professor (Derrick O'Connor) puts it down to student jitters but soon all realize there really is a problem because people start to die. Apparently the corpse is that of an archaeologist who uncovered an ancient site that included the remains of 50,000 people whose spirits were not at rest. By uncovering the site the souls of the dead were set free to drive the archaeologist mad in a particularly unpleasant way and the students must figure out how to put all these spirits and that of the homicidal archaeologist to rest. But first they have to find the cadaver which has of course disappeared.

<><><>

A neat horror mystery with good performances, if over the top sometimes, and a reasonable storyline
Perhap a better budget would have helped in the special effects department. Nevertheless worth a watch.

Thx Alexis will check those out.. :)

DIRECTOR'S mini BIOGRAPHY & THIS WEEKS FILM ON DVD REVIEWED (AVATAR)

JAMES CAMERON

James Cameron was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada, on August 16, 1954. He moved to the USA in 1971. The son of an engineer, he majored in physics at California State University but, after graduating, drove a truck to support his screen-writing ambition. He landed his first professional film job as art director, miniature-set builder, and process-projection supervisor on Roger Corman's Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) and debuted as a director with Piranha Part Two: The Spawning (1981) the following year.

In 1984, he wrote and directed The Terminator (1984), a futuristic action-thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, and Linda Hamilton. It was a huge success. After this came a string of successful science-fiction action films such as Aliens (1986) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). Cameron is now one of the most sought-after directors in Hollywood. He was formerly married to producer Gale Anne Hurd (divorced), who produced several of his films. He married again, Katherine Bigelow, Hurt Locker fame…Devorced, Then Linda Hamilton..Devorced & then married Suxy Amis his present wife. He has four Children.
According to Cameron, he got his big break while doing pick-up shots for Galaxy of Terror (1981) as 2nd unit director. He was shooting scenes of a dismembered arm teeming with maggots (actually mealworms). In order to make them move, he hooked up an AC power cord to the arm, and an unseen assistant would plug it in when the film was rolling. Two producers were strolling through, and when Cameron yelled "Action!" the worms began to writhe on cue. When he yelled "Cut!" the worms stopped. The producers were so amazed at his directing prowess that they began talking with him about bigger projects.
Production company is 'Lightstorm Entertainment'

His Lives in Malibu and Calabasas, California

Personal Quotes :

People call me a perfectionist, but I'm not. I'm a rightist. I do something until it's right, and then I move on to the next thing.
...you can read all the books about film-making, all the articles in American Cinematographer and that sort of thing, but you have to really see how it works on a day-to-day basis, and how to pace your energy so that you can survive the film, which was a lesson that took me a long time to learn.

A director's job is to make something happen and it doesn't happen by itself. So you wheedle, you cajole, you flatter people, you tell them what needs to be done. And if you don't bring a passion and an intensity to it, you shouldn't be doing it

Personal Note :

James Cameron is one of the most sort after Director’s in Hollywood, and in my view rightly so. With land mark Films such as the Terminator, Titanic & Avatar he has shown a breadth of Talent rarely seen.
A trually remarkable Director, Producer & Writer…long may he entertain us.

Film List in Year Order :

Xenogenesis (1978)
Piranha Part two (1981)
The Terminator (1984)

This Time its War (1985)

City of War - The Story of John Rabe UK Certificate 15

Genre: Drama/History/War

Directed by : Florian Gallenberger

Starring : Ulrich Tukur/Daniel Bruhl/Anne Consigny

As the globe stands on the brink of World War II, Shanghai has fallen and deadly Japanese bombers target the infamous city of Nanking. As panic breaks out and savage bombing raids devastate the city, veteran entrepreneur John Rabe, a German living the high life in the social whirl of Nanking, must make an agonizing choice: to flee or give sanctuary to the terrified population within the gates of his factory. When the Imperial Japanese Army discovers Rabe's selfless operation, they see it as an act of high treason. As a wave of brutality is unleashed on Nanking, Rabe and his comrades find themselves in a race against time to fight for a safety zone to protect the hundreds of thousands of innocent victims of this ultimate act of war. But as the bombings desist, a perilous siege begins..........

<><><>

A superior war movie with good performances & a strong and at times Engaging storyline.
Not to my mind as atmospheric as Schlinder's List where the sense of dread & forboding was all pervasive.
That said, the brutality and at times insurmountable odds that the Chinese & Rabe had to indure does comes across with stark realism.
Highly Recommended.
